Robustness of antiadhesion between nanofibers and surfaces covered with nanoripples of varying spatial period

چکیده

Since nanofibers have a high surface-to-volume ratio, van der Waals forces render them attracted to virtually any surface. The ratio provides significant advantages for applications in drug delivery, wound healing, tissue regeneration, and filtration. Cribellate spiders integrate thousands of into their capture threads as an adhesive immobilize prey. These antiadhesive nanoripples on the calamistrum, comb-like structure hindmost legs, are thus ideal model investigating how nanofiber adhesion can be reduced. We found that these had similar spacing cribellate species Uloborus plumipes , Amaurobius similis Menneus superciliosus independent phylogenetic relation size. Ripple other body parts (i.e., cuticle, claws, spinnerets), however, was less homogeneous. To investigate whether specific distance between ripples determines antiadhesion, we fabricated nanorippled foils by nanosecond UV laser processing. varied spatial periods range ~ 203–613 nm. Using two different pulse numbers resulted heights. antiadhesion measured all surfaces, showing effect is robust against alterations across whole tested. Motivated results, irregular surface with 130–480 nm, which showed same behavior. tested surfaces may useful tools handling such spoolers single nanofibers, conveyor belts producing endless nonwoven, cylindrical fabricating tubular nonwoven. Engineered fibers carbon nanotubes represent further candidate application area.
